Trump Asks Judge to Cut Two More Georgia Counts
Donald Trump’s lawyers filed a new motion in Fulton County on April 24, 2024, asking Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee to throw out two charges in the Georgia election-interference case. The filing seeks dismissal of one count of filing false documents and one count of conspiracy to file false documents. It does not ask the court to end the case.
The request follows two earlier rulings from McAfee. On March 13, he dismissed six counts from the indictment, including three against Trump, after finding those charges did not spell out enough detail about the underlying allegations. On April 4, he rejected a separate defense bid to toss the case on First Amendment grounds.
Trump’s latest motion narrows the fight to specific counts instead of attacking the prosecution as a whole. The case remains pending in Fulton County, with the defense continuing to press for dismissals count by count.
The filing also landed on the eve of a separate Supreme Court proceeding: oral argument on Trump’s claim of presidential immunity in the federal election-interference case was scheduled for April 25, 2024. That put two major Trump legal fights on the calendar at the same time, even though they are separate cases in different courts.
