Privacy Policy

The Daily Fuckup is a United States-based digital news publication. This policy explains what information we process, why we process it, how long we keep it, who may receive it, and the choices available to you.
Information we process
- Account information: username, email address, password hash, verification and account status, login timestamps, and preferences.
- Reader submissions: comments, tips, contact messages, privacy requests, moderation records, and related metadata.
- Subscriptions: name, email, confirmation, delivery, unsubscribe, and suppression records.
- Technical and security data: IP address, browser and device information, request logs, referrer, timestamps, fraud and abuse signals, and error records.
- Consent and preferences: theme, cookie choices, analytics choice, external-media choice, and any advertising consent handled by a separately configured certified platform.
- Payments and donations: payment processors handle payment-card or account details. TDF may receive transaction identifiers, payer contact information, amount, status, and fraud or accounting records, but does not intentionally store full payment-card numbers.

Cookies and similar technologies
Essential cookies support login, security, forms, and saved consent choices. Optional functional storage remembers theme, visit timing, and reading progress only after permission. Analytics and external-media code are blocked until the corresponding permission is granted. Google AdSense remains disabled until TDF configures a Google-certified consent platform. You may accept, reject, or change non-essential choices at any time.
Sharing and processors
Information may be processed by hosting, email, security, analytics, advertising, translation, payment, and professional-service providers only as needed for their services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect users or the public, to enforce rights, or during a reorganization or transfer of the publication. TDF does not sell personal information for money.
International transfers
TDF operates in the United States. If you are outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries. Where legally required, TDF will rely on an available transfer mechanism, contractual safeguards, consent, necessity for requested services, or another lawful basis.
Retention
- Account data: while the account is active and generally up to 24 months after closure, except records needed for security, disputes, or law.
- Password-reset tokens: one hour or until used; request timestamps may remain in security logs.
- Consent records: generally up to 24 months after the last choice.
- Routine web and security logs: generally 90 days, longer when needed to investigate abuse or an incident.
- Newsletter records: while subscribed; suppression and consent records may be retained to honor opt-outs and prove compliance.
- Comments, corrections, tips, and editorial records: as needed for the public record, moderation, verification, journalistic integrity, safety, and legal claims.
- Donation, transaction, tax, and accounting records: as required by applicable law and normal accounting obligations.
- Privacy requests: generally six years to document handling and compliance.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, opt out of certain advertising or sharing, and appeal a decision. EEA and UK residents may also complain to their local supervisory authority. Verified EEA/UK requests are normally answered within one month; legally permitted extensions or exceptions will be explained. Rights can be limited by journalism, freedom of expression, legal obligations, security, public-interest archiving, and the rights of others.
Global Privacy Control
When a browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, TDF treats it as a default rejection of non-essential analytics and external-media storage until the visitor makes a different explicit choice on this device. Advertising remains disabled independently.
Children
The service is not directed to children under 13, and TDF does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through normal site operation. Users in jurisdictions with a higher digital-consent age should use the service only with any consent required by local law.
Security and verification
TDF uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no online system is risk-free. Privacy requests may require identity verification. Never send passwords, full payment-card numbers, or highly sensitive source material through an ordinary form.
Editorial accuracy and corrections
TDF does not knowingly publish false information. Anyone alleging otherwise should identify the exact statement and produce evidence showing that it is false. Verified material errors are corrected publicly.
