Donald Trump held an outdoor rally in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 9, 2024, while temperatures climbed above 100 degrees. His campaign responded by adding medics, water bottles, fans and umbrellas for attendees at the event, which was set up in a park with limited shade.

Local fire officials said most of the medical calls from the rally were tied to the heat. Six people were taken to hospitals and 24 others were treated at the site. Trump also told supporters to get help if they needed it and joked about the conditions during the speech.

As the rally went on, Trump complained that the teleprompters were not working properly. He said he was more frustrated with the equipment than with the heat, and he made clear he planned to keep going despite the problems.

The event came during a stretch of unusually hot weather in Las Vegas, where early June temperatures had already been running well above normal. The campaign’s precautions helped reduce the risk for attendees, but the rally still showed the strain that extreme heat can put on a large outdoor political gathering.
