Butler man admits threats against Trump, federal officials, and ICE agents
A Butler, Pennsylvania, resident has admitted in federal court that he made threats targeting President Donald Trump, other U.S. officials, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
The Justice Department said Shawn Monper, 33, pleaded guilty on April 13, 2026, in the Western District of Pennsylvania. Prosecutors said the case had been investigated by federal agents with help from local police after the threats surfaced online and led to his arrest last year. Monper had previously been indicted on eight counts. According to the department, FBI agents and Butler Township police arrested him on April 9, 2025, and seized three handguns that had been purchased in the weeks before the arrest. A federal judge later ordered him detained while the case moved forward. The guilty plea settles the question of guilt, but it does not end the case. Monper still faces sentencing, and the court will decide the punishment at a later date. The Justice Department has said the counts in the case carry possible prison time and fines under federal law. The case landed in Butler under a glare that has not faded since the area became tied to the July 2024 Trump rally shooting. That history does not change the legal facts here, but it helps explain why another federal prosecution from the same county drew quick attention.
