Butler man pleads guilty in federal court over threats against Trump, officials, and ICE agents
A Butler, Pennsylvania, man has pleaded guilty in federal court to threatening President Donald Trump, other U.S. officials, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Prosecutors said Shawn Monper, 33, entered the plea on April 13 before U.S. District Judge W. Scott Hardy in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
According to the Justice Department, Monper pleaded guilty to two counts of threatening to assault and murder U.S. officials and federal law enforcement officers. As part of the plea agreement, he also accepted responsibility for the other counts he had been charged with. The court was told the threats were made with the intent to impede, intimidate, interfere with, and retaliate against officials and agents performing their duties.
The federal case grew out of an emergency disclosure sent to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section on April 8, 2025, about threatening posts on YouTube from a user calling himself “Mr Satan,” prosecutors said. Investigators later tied that account activity to Monper’s residence in western Pennsylvania. The Justice Department said Monper had posted about buying guns and ammunition, said he was going to do a mass shooting, and made specific threats against Trump and ICE agents.
Monper was arrested on federal charges on April 9, 2025, and has remained detained, according to the department. Hardy set sentencing for August 12, 2026. Prosecutors said each count carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. The FBI and Butler Township Police Department investigated the case.
