Butler man pleads guilty to threats against Trump, ICE agents and other officials
A Butler, Pennsylvania, man pleaded guilty in federal court on April 13, 2026, to two federal counts tied to threats to assault and murder President Donald Trump, other U.S. officials and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Shawn Monper, 33, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge W. Scott Hardy in Pittsburgh, according to the Justice Department.
Prosecutors said the counts covered threats to assault and murder U.S. officials and federal law enforcement officers with the intent to impede, intimidate, interfere with and retaliate against them while they were carrying out official duties. The Justice Department said the online threats were made between January 15, 2025, and April 5, 2025.
The case moved through the usual federal sequence: an arrest, a criminal complaint, later charges, and then the guilty plea. DOJ said the investigation involved the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department. Court records and DOJ’s releases describe online posts that referenced Trump and ICE agents and contained violent threats.
Monper’s sentencing is scheduled for August 12, 2026. He remains subject to punishment under federal law and the sentencing guidelines until the court hands down that sentence.
