July 15, 2022 was supposed to be a painful, headline-friendly date for Donald Trump and two of his children, with sworn depositions in the New York attorney general’s civil fraud probe on the calendar. Then Ivana Trump died, and the attorney general’s office agreed to delay the questioning. It was a grim human event layered on top of a very not-grim-for-Trump legal headache. The day also kept the broader Trump-world fraud and subpoena cloud hanging overhead, with the underlying investigation still moving and no sign the exposure was going away.
