Trump’s July 11 sentencing moved to Sept. 18 as immunity briefing continues
Donald Trump’s sentencing in his New York hush-money case did not go forward on July 11. Instead, state Judge Juan M. Merchan adjourned it to Sept. 18 after the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling triggered new briefing on what, if anything, should be revisited before sentencing.
The case had been set for a July 11 sentencing after the jury’s guilty verdict. But after the high court issued its July 1 decision, Trump’s lawyers and prosecutors returned to court with papers arguing over the ruling’s effect on post-trial motions, including whether some evidence-related issues or other sentencing-stage questions should be reconsidered. The conviction itself remained in place while those arguments were being resolved.
The docket and court filings show the immunity-related submissions arriving in early July, followed by the adjournment order moving sentencing to Sept. 18. The delay did not erase the verdict or end the case; it kept sentencing on hold while the judge considered the scope of the post-trial issues raised by the Supreme Court’s decision.
